Marijuana Smuggling Arrests up At LAX

Since California voters passed Proposition 64 legalizing cannabis, “Marijuana farms” have been popping up all over the state. So called “grow Houses” up to 50,000 square feet are saturating  the market with cannabis based products. This over abundance of product, has essentially drove down prices to a point where, the real money to be made is outside of California.

That brings us to the question of getting the product across country, specifically, via air transportation.

Now if you remember, we stated in a recent article LAX is OK with Marijuana, LAX had recently announced that it will permit travelers to bring small amounts of legal marijuana through security in their carry-on bags. (must be 21 years of age or older to legally possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana for personal consumption).

But, just because it’s legal in California, cannabis is still illegal under federal law. And, boarding a plane with said product is subject you to federal law which could mean a fine or detention. Arrests for Marijuana smuggling at LAX are up 166 percent since January 2018 and the legalization of marijuana in California. About 20 percent of those reports involved trafficking with offenders being caught with up to 70 lbs.
